Andy McConnell
Leadership Development/Life Coach and Group Process Consultant

In addition to being a leadership development coach and group process consultant, Andy McConnell is a fine artist and the principal of Shack Medicine, LLC, a successful carpentry firm located in West Seattle. While working on construction sites, Andy observed that how well crews communicated with one another, and their leadership had a direct impact on both the profit margin and the overall quality of the final product. Curious to learn more about how to form and maintain effective teams, Andy earned his Masters Degree in Applied Behavioral Science from the Leadership Institute of Seattle at Bastyr University in Kenmore Washington. His thesis focused on transition management at the top leadership, middle-management and employee levels of an organization. Andy has worked with leaders in both the for profit and non-profit sectors and helped people make and stick with changes in their lives as they navigate the world of work.
Andy’s artwork can be seen at woodmystic.com and found at several art galleries in the Pacific Northwest.
Testimonials
“Andy McConnell is an excellent management consultant! As a new manager in the mental health field, I dealt with some significant challenges in leading my team to manage change. Andy thoroughly interviewed me and my entire team to assess the problem.
He then met with me weekly and gave me helpful tools and exercises to guide my team through the change effectively. He was a supportive and attentive listener, and a firm and tactful communicator through the process. He is an innovative thinker, often encouraging me to think creatively outside the box, expand the box to a whole new level, or paint the box red for a week and see what happens!
My team really enjoyed the brainstorming sessions and exercises to build awareness of where they were in the change process. By creating an environment of curiosity, openness, and acceptance of all ideas, Andy really created an open space for my team to move through resistance and embrace new possibilities for change. I learned how to be a better leader and I am thankful for his support.”– Susan Mowrey, clinical manager, Child and Adolescent Services at VCCC -- Valley Cities Counseling and Consultation
